A charming and slightly far fetched little movie of the beautiful people at a glamourous Hollywood party at the famous Ambassador Hotel.. It features some of the biggest stars of the day, wearing the latest fashions. In the 1930's the world was gripped by the Great Depression and very often, as depicted in Woody Allens Purple Rose of Cairo, the only source of escapism was going to the Movies. The stunning fashions of the early 1930's went hand in hand with the Glamour of Hollywood. Old reels like these look dated now, but they offered hope to millions of people. TIMELESS CLASSICS VINTAGE STYLE (192O'S) Films and their influence really blossomed (ESPECIALLY FASHION) in the 1920s, expanding upon the foundations of films from earlier years. Most US film production at the start of the decade occurred in or near Hollywood on the West Coast, although some films were still being made in New Jersey and in Astoria on Long Island. By the mid-20s, movies were big business with some theatres offering double features. By the end of the decade, there were 20 Hollywood studios, and the demand for films was greater than ever. Most people are unaware that the greatest output of feature films in the US occurred in the 1920s and 1930s (averaging about 800 film releases in a year) - nowadays, it is remarkable when production exceeds 500 films in a year. |
